RISDA College began its operations as KUMPULAN INSTITUT LATIHAN RISDA ( RISDA TRAINING INSTITUTE GROUP) which provided training, technical and management activities since 1973. In the early 80s, this college was known as Institut Latihan RISDA (ILR) (RISDA Training Institute) and conducted courses for RISDA staff, other agencies and smallholders.
In 1999, management of the Training Institute was taken over by RISDA College, a corporate body established in 1994 under the Companies Act 1965, with its Head Office at Km 7 Jalan Ampang, 50450 Kuala Lumpur. RISDA College (KRIS) has 4 branches, that is the Melaka, Perak, Kelantan and Pahang RISDA Colleges.
As of 2008, RISDA College focused only on Academic & Skills programmes at the Melaka College. The RISDA College operating at the Alor Gajah Melaka campus is registered as a Private Institute of Higher Education under the Private Higher Educational Institutions Bill 1996.
RISDA College is also registered with the Ministry of Education as a Contractor which provides course-related services and supplies, including providing accommodation and food.
The Melaka RISDA College campus now covers 140 acres complete with infrastructure for an educational and training centre, which includes hostels, recreational spaces and farms with parks conducive for learning, recreational and religious pursuits for trainees/students at any given time.
Acknowledging the role of agriculture and its niche in the development of the country, RISDA College conducts programmes such as the Diploma in Agriculture (UPM), Diploma in Landscape Management, Diploma in Planting Industry Management (UiTM), and Pre-Diploma in Science (UiTM) to provide opportunities to those interested in furthering their studies in agriculture in line with the present career market demands.
With its experienced teaching staff, RISDA College is committed towards producing skilled graduates able to employ commercial agricultural approaches on a large scale and using the latest technology widely in order to produce quality products.
The strategic location of RISDA College with its complete facilities such as farming and practical areas for agricultural activities; machinery and other agricultural equipment; science, plant science and soil laboratories, library as well as a computer laboratory provide students with an environment conducive to learning.
All diploma students studying at RISDA College will be given assistance in obtaining funding and sponsorship from the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional (PTPTN)) and MARA. In addition, RISDA also allocates a scholarship scheme worth RM2.4 million to finance the studies of second-generation smallholders to further studies at RISDA College.
